World of Tanks - Potential New M551 Sheridan Model? (UPDATE: DEBUNKED as of 17. Aug! Read for Details)
UPDATE (17. Aug): It has been all-but-confirmed by insider sources that this vehicle is not intended for World of Tanks at this time -- the vehicle model was instead for Wargaming's Project Excalibur, a.k.a. their since-cancelled attempt at a tank warfare game in a more modern setting. Several screenshots of the model were found from in the game, as well as a couple of other models from the game by the same group of artists:
For a more comprehensive report on the model's fate/usage, see The Daily Bounce's article covering the topic in more detail.
(Do note: this does not mean that Wargaming couldn't potentially recycle the model for use in World of Tanks, but as mentioned in The Daily Bounce's article, the M551A1 this model represents is a bit outside of the game's timeframe, and it has been confirmed that there are no plans to replace the current XM551 model, at least for the immediate future.)
Original (now outdated) article shown below, along with the accompanying images.
A model of the M551 Sheridan (appearing to be the ACAV variant) has appeared on the Artstation page of Roman Agieiev, a 3D Artist at Room 8 Studio. While the model is very much impressive in itself, likely more interesting (or at least, more relevant to you, the reader) is that it has apparently made for Wargaming, as both seen by the watermarks on the images and in the description:
Sheridan M551 for Wargaming.net.
Could this perhaps be a new model to replace that of the much boxier-looking XM551 Sheridan we currently have in World of Tanks, as Wargaming had stated they planned to do in the Minsk CC Q&A from last year? Perhaps, but only time will tell -- we will have to wait and see. (Update: Time has, in fact, told otherwise -- see the update above!) Regardless, here are some more renderings of the model.
