Some more info from the World of Tanks supertest: today, tests have begun on another new Soviet vehicle. This will be an interesting variant of a tank already present in the game, in historical configuration and with an original appearance: the T-34 Shielded (a.k.a. T-34E).
The machine will differ slightly from the standard one, in that the T-34 Shielded will receive additional armor screens on the sides of the hull and turret. The machine will be armed with a 76 mm gun, with subcaliber (APCR) ammunition as its' standard round. Otherwise, the statistics will be similar to its' researchable counterpart.
Other experiments are also known of -- one version attempted to use screens made of reinforced concrete as additional protection, for example. In large-scale production, such solutions were not employed, but factory modifications with shielded armor participated in combat tests.
A short reference on the shielded armor T-34s:
The development of screens for the T-34 began in 1941. Their serial production took place from the end of 1941 to the beginning of 1942, and several hundred were produced. In the future it was decided to abandon the screens, sacrificing additional protection for the sake of mobility and reliability. Nevertheless, in the spring of 1943, the second advent of the screened T-34 took place. In October 1942 at the plant number 112, several screening options were developed for the T-34. The main task was to protect against cumulative projectiles (i.e. HEAT) of 75 mm caliber. It was decided to make a batch of 46 tanks with these screens, which once again passed a combat test at the front.
In-game tests proceed on the machine with factory shielding. Depending on the results of these tests, changes in the characteristics of the machine are possible. Keep an eye out for more info.
